Christmas Gift

Glossies cascade from my letter-box,
a mind-numbing coloured cornucopia,
each dazzling gift a bargain.

The first-ever Christmas gift was found
wrapped in straw and non-disposable nappies,
in Palestine, at the census,

stamped with a star, but posted beyond the stars,
marked ‘No Commercial Value’, signed, with a cross,
‘From heaven to earth, with love.’
