These are my personal favourites among my father’s poems. To me, they are those that reflect personal experience and feeling to which I most respond.
A poet will always write for an audience – why else write at all? Michael Thwaites wrote for many different audiences and individuals at different times.
The poetry that speaks to me, in this selection, covers every phase of his life from thoughtful schoolboy to an old man facing the end of his own time in the world he knew.
